Two interns from Kokusai Junior College in Egota were accepted for five days each from the 13th to the 21st of August. The interns gained experience in a variety of jobs, mainly preparing for the ‘We’ve done it!’ party held on the last day of the ‘Summer Japanese Class for Children. As an unusual experience, the interns were asked to make several phone calls to the parents of the students of the ‘Summer Japanese Class for Children’, as a lesson was cancelled due to the typhoon. Since the parents were foreigners, we had to use ‘Easy Japanese’ to get the message through to them. After learning what ‘Easy Japanese’ is, the interns challenged with it. One of the interns commented: ‘It was difficult to think about how to modify everyday words into a way that would be understood.’
The interns were also asked to display for the glass case at the entrance to ANIC. ‘There are more than 2,000 Nepalese people living in Nakano Ward. I also have Nepalese friends at school. I want to research them.’ They did a lot of research and made a display. Although it was a short period of time, they worked hard and enthusiastically.
