On the 25th of September (Wed), Kana Suzuki, an ANIC staff member and also a multicultural kids coordinator supported by Tokyo Metropolitan Government, was asked to give a talk about the daily activities of Association for Nakano International Communications as a training session for teachers at Nakano Higashi Junior High School, which is designated as a Tokyo Metropolitan Government Japanese language teaching promotion school.

Association for Nakano International Communications started Japanese Language classes for children in 2002 and in 2020 Intensive Japanese Language classes for junior high school students also started so that an environment has been established where children who need Japanese language support can continue to learn.

Some ideas were proposed on how they could work together in their subject studies.

The idea of using ‘Easy Japanese’ was suggested, and the teachers were given  a chance to try it out and they were getting the hang of it. ‘It made me reflect on how I used to talk to returnee students.’ ‘It made me think about how difficult it is to choose the right words.’ ‘I was shocked to find out that the Japanese I thought was easy to use was actually not easy at all.’ were the feed backs.

It is hoped that the teachers will put Easy Japanese into practice in their teaching in the future.
