Yayoi Japanese class started.
In between Japanese language studies, the learners took turns to experience the tea ceremony at Yayoi Japanese class in a Japanese-style room at the beginning of year 2025.
First, taking care not to step on the inside of the tatami mats, they went to the front of the tokonoma (alcove), looked at the ‘hanging scrolls’ on display and saw the ikebana flower arrangements.
Next, after playing with Japanese New Year games such as kites, kendama, paper balloons and koma, they sat down.
First, sweets were handed out and eaten, after which matcha tea was brought in.
The learners nervously listened to the explanation of how to drink the tea.
The children also tried and their faces were impressive when they drank the bitter tea.
They also had the chance to make tea.
