ANIC’s Friday Volunteers Group, together with the Korean and Chinese members, participated in the Children’s Night Patrol group of the Minami-guchi town council on this past Tuesday, December 26th.
Per ANIC’s request, the Nakano Station Minami-guchi town council has been graciously allowing us to participate in this each year. This is our sixth participation. We went around the town beating wooden sticks called hyoshigi and bawling out loudly: “Hi no Yojin (Beware of Fire). It is an invaluable experience to participate in this night patrolling since it is a rare practice today. Hopefully, it will be preserved for the future since it is a unique aspect of Japanese culture. It was also a precious opportunity to talk with the members of the town council, whose activities are based on the area.
