On May the twenty-fourth, a Friday—a Vietnamese cooking class was held. Mrs. Hahn Watanabe, who is studying in the Japanese class, taught this class.
They made raw spring rolls, Banh Nep (Vietnamese-style Chimaki), Banh Xeo (Vietnamese-style okonomiyaki), and green bean Che.
Banh Nep was chewy and tasty. They are seldom seen at Vietnamese restaurants in Japan. Banh Xeo is a crispy and bright yellow okonomiyaki (savory pancake).
The yellow color was from turmeric rather than eggs, a fact that greatly surprised participants. It was a big meal and everyone left quite satisfied.
