For the third outdoor exchange supported by Friday volunteers, we walked
around Araiyakushi. It was cloudy on the day, but we started from Araiyashiku
station and at first we strolled in Tetugakudo-Park. After we enjoyed looking at
various old historic buildings, we also admired “Philosophers’ Garden” with
statues of persons representing religions, philosophy and law.
We viewed cherry blossoms almost in full bloom in Nakano High Street and in
Kitano Shrine there was a statue of an ox called “Stroke the Ox” , which was
understood that if you stroke your sick part on the ox , you will be healed.
The attendees tried to stroke the ox.
When we arrived at Araiyakushi-Park, it started raining. While we were waiting
in a shelter, we answered some quiz questions regarding what we had learned.
Our last spot was Baishouin. The weeping cherry blossoms were in full bloom
so we took a group memorial photo there. We all got very excited with the
quiz sessions played at each venue.
As we had done in Saginomiya Course, we hired a wheelchair to confirm this
course was accessible. The participants had an experience of using the
wheelchair or pushing it.
From the participants, there were views that they enjoyed cherry blossoms
as well as they had opportunities to speak a lot to the Japanese people.
The next walking course will be around Nakano Station.
Please look forward to joining!
