On Tuesday the 18th and Thursday the 20th of June, 126 volunteers from all five Japanese language classes, 107 adult learners and 36 children learners held evacuation drills.
First, an easy Japanese version of the ‘Disaster Prevention in Nakano’ map* was used and explained in easy Japanese by a person from the Disaster Prevention and Crisis Management Section of Nakano Ward.
Japanese language volunteers and learners looked at the map together and identified evacuation centers and wide-area shelters near their own homes and near ANIC.
They then hid under their desks at the announcement of ‘there was a big earthquake’.
They then evacuated outside from the fire exit.
This was the first evacuation drill for the children’s class.
The children listened carefully to the Japanese language volunteers and were able to act accordingly.
