On the 29 of August (Thu), a study session was held for approximately 30 people who teach Japanese at elementary and junior high schools in Nakano Ward.
The first half of the workshop was led by Mr Takahashi, Guidance Supervisor of the Guidance Office of the Nakano Ward Board of Education, who spoke on the theme of ‘Involvement with children and students who need Japanese language instruction’.
The participants learnt about initiatives in Tokyo and Nakano Ward for children in need of Japanese language instruction and the characteristics of children in the lower, middle and upper grades.
The use of iPads was also explained while looking at the actual screens. We were shown the translation functions and contents of teaching materials and confirmed the use of iPads in Japanese language teaching according to the situation.
In the second half, a workshop was held on how to effectively teach Japanese to children who grew up in Japan but speak a foreign language at home, which has been increasing recently, and participants confirmed what is important in providing support.
We will continue to support elementary and junior high school students so that they can continue learning with the aim of completing all 34 units of ‘Kodomo no Nihongo’.
