This is the fourth year that the Association has been commissioned by Nakano Ward to organize a training course in Easy Japanese for Nakano Ward employees.

The training was held in the conference room of the Nakano Ward Office on Monday 30 September, Monday 7 October, Monday 21 October and Wednesday 13 November, with 130 participants.

The lecturer was Ms. Mariko Nakayama, President of the NPO Multicultural Children’s Independence Support Centre, and the training was conducted in the form of ‘practical exercises’ in six (seven on 13 November) groups, using textbooks from the ‘Easy-to-understand Japanese’ course and other materials.

The trainees worked enthusiastically throughout the day in two types of group work: written translation, such as making leaflets and guidebooks, and oral work, which is used directly at the service counter. Two foreign assistants living in Nakano Ward also supported the training in order to try out ‘Easy Japanese’ that could actually be understood.

In the post-training questionnaire, the following comments were made: ‘I often deal with foreigners at the counter, so I am confident that what I have learnt will definitely come in handy. I am sure that this training will be very useful for me.’; ’It was good to be able to have a practice asking foreign people their opinions and to experience the difficulty of conveying necessary information in an easy way.’
