The “briefing for the high school advancement of foreign children and parents” has taken place on Nov 28th (SAT), at the NAKANO ZERO west building. It was supported by the Association for Nakano International Communications as well as the NPO Youth Support Center.
In Japan, roughly 97% of all middle school students will advance into high school. However, just 50% of foreign students living in Japan make it that far in Tokyo. Many steps have been made in order to solve this difficult problem facing Tokyo high schools.
The briefing was held for an audience of 15 elementary school students and caretakers. Among the talks, a third year middle school student asked for permission for foreign students to use their dictionary or to have their time extended by 10 minutes when taking high school entrance exams.

Children’s Japanese classes at ANIC have both foreign and Japanese students. Their requirements for getting into high school may differ, but we feel that it is important to support them when attempting to enter their school of choice.
